Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. margarine, softened
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. each: cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice or cloves
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 c. fig preserves with juice, chopped
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts
  • 1/2 c. coconut (optional)
  • 1 c. raisins (optional)

Directions

    Cream margarine and sugar until light; add eggs, beating after each.

    Stir in vanilla.

    Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk, mixing well after each addition.

    Stir in remaining ingredients.

    Bake in a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan for 50 minutes at 350°.
