- 1 1/2 c. barley flour
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
- 1 tsp. soda
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 c. shortening
Directions

1Add soda to milk.

2Mix dry ingredients first, then work in shortening.

3Stir in milk and soda until a soft dough.

4Divide in half.

5Pat to 1/2-inch thick and bake on cookie sheet in a 400° oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
