  • 3 c. white flour
  • 1 1/2 c. barley flour
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. shortening

    Add soda to milk.

    Mix dry ingredients first, then work in shortening.

    Stir in milk and soda until a soft dough.

    Divide in half.

    Pat to 1/2-inch thick and bake on cookie sheet in a 400° oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
