- 1 2/3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. cocoa
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- One-Bowl Buttercream Frosting
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2Line muffin cups with paper baking cups. In large mixer bowl, stir together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, salt and baking powder.

3Add eggs, shortening, buttermilk and vanilla.

4Beat on low speed of electric mixer 1 minute, scraping bowl occasionally.

5Then, beat on high speed for 3 minutes.

6Fill muffin cups 1/2 full with batter.

7Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

8Remove from pan to wire rack.

9Cool.

10Frost with One-Bowl Buttercream Frosting. Garnish as desired.
