  • 1 lb. fish fillets (cod or halibut)
  • 1 lb. potatoes
  • 1/4 c. flour (for batter)
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 1 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 egg white, beaten
  • 1/4 c. flour (for dipping)
  • oil or shortening for deep frying

Directions

    Thaw fish, if frozen.

    Cut into pieces, 1 x 3-inch (or so). Cut potatoes into similar pieces (1 x 3-inch).

    Combine flour and salt.

    Add egg yolk, water and oil.

    Stir until smooth.

    Fold in egg white.

    Fry potatoes in deep fat at 375° until golden brown. Drain and keep warm.

    Dip fish in 1/4 cup flour and then in batter.

    Fry until golden brown, at least 1 1/2 minutes per side.
