  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. allspice
  • 2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 6 Tbsp. buttermilk
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 2 c. fresh mashed peaches
  • 1/3 c. fresh peach juice

    Peel and mash peaches.

    Cream sugar and shortening until fluffy.

    Add eggs, one at a time and beat well.

    Sift flour, spices and salt.

    Add soda to buttermilk and add alternately with sifted ingredients to first mixture.

    Fold in fresh peaches and juice.

    Bake in 9-inch layer pans that are greased and floured. Bake 45 minutes at 350°.
