- 3 medium apples
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. cornstarch
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1 1/2 c. plain flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 1/3 to 1/2 c. Crisco oil
Directions

1Cook sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir in apples until moist.

2Cover and cook until tender about 20 minutes; cool at room temperature and refrigerate.

3Combine flour, baking powder and salt.

4Cut in shortening and gradually add milk.

5Make into ball, wrap in plastic paper and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

6Divide into 16 pieces, make small ball and roll flat into 4-inch circle.

7Put a tablespoon of apples in center and moisten edges and press with floured fork.

8Heat about 1 1/2-inches oil and fry 2 to 3 pies at a time.
