- 5 medium green tomatoes
- 1/3 c. flour
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- few dashes pepper
- 1/4 c. shortening
Directions

1Cut tomatoes into 1/2-inch crosswise slices.

2Mix flour, salt and pepper; dip both sides of tomato slices into mixture.

3Heat shortening in a skillet until sizzling hot; put in tomatoes and cook quickly until browned on underside.

4Turn tomatoes carefully; reduce heat and cook until thoroughly hot and soft through center. Remove to a hot platter and serve.
