Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. self-rising flour
  • 1/2 c. corn meal
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 3 or 4 large green tomatoes, cut 1/4-inch slices

Directions

    Mix together flour, corn meal, salt and pepper.

    In separate bowl, mix together vinegar and buttermilk.

    Dip tomatoes in buttermilk mixture and roll in dry mixture on both sides.

    Fry in hot oil 2-inches deep.

    Turn once with tongs.

    (Do not use fork.) Drain in colander.

    (Do not use paper towels.

    Will make tomatoes soggy.)

    Do not stack tomatoes.
