Fried Green Tomatoes

  • 2 or 3 green tomatoes
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 c. cornmeal
  • 1 c. flour
  • salt and pepper to taste

    Slice tomatoes in 1/4-inch slices.

    Stir egg and water until egg is mixed well with water.

    Pour egg wash over tomatoes.

    Mix meal, flour, salt and pepper together.

    Batter tomato slices in meal mixture.

    Fry in skillet in about 1 inch of Crisco oil over medium heat.

    When tomatoes are golden brown on one side, turn over and cook until brown on both sides.
