Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. self-rising flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. cornmeal
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 3 or 4 green tomatoes

Directions

    Cut into 1/4-inch slices the tomatoes.

    Combine remaining ingredients and mix until smooth.

    Mixture may have to have more milk to make consistency of pancake batter.

    Dip the tomato slices into batter and allow excess batter to drip back in bowl.

    Fry in 2 inches oil (375°) in large skillet until brown, turning once carefully.

    Use tongs to turn.

    Drain in colander to keep tomatoes from becoming soggy.

    Stand up like wheels in serving dish.
