Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 1 pkg. cake yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 c. fruit or vegetables

Directions

    Dissolve sugar and yeast in lukewarm water.

    Add yeast mixture to rest of ingredients.

    Mix well.

    Cover with towel; let rise for 40 minutes.

    Stir down and add 1 cup of any fruit or vegetable. Stir down again.

    Drop by spoonful in deep melted shortening. Fry, turning once until golden.

    (Bananas are especially good this way.)
