Ingredients

  • 4 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. whole milk
  • 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 4 sq. chocolate
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Place chocolate and milk in a heavy saucepan.

    Cook and stir over very low heat until blended.

    Add sugar and salt; stir over medium heat and heat to a boil.

    Continue boiling, without stirring, until a little forms

    a soft ball in cold water (or to 234°).

    Remove from heat.

    Add butter and vanilla; cool to lukewarm (110°).

    Then beat until mixture holds its shape.

    Pour at once into buttered 8 x 8-inch pan.

    Cut when cold.
