- 3/4 c. butter
- 2 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 3 eggs
- 3 c. sifted cake flour
- 3 sq. melted unsweetened chocolate
- 1 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 1/2 c. ice water
Directions

1Cream butter, sugar and vanilla with mixer.

2Add eggs, beating until light and fluffy.

3Add melted chocolate and blend well.

4Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with water to chocolate mixture.

5Pour batter into three 8 or 9-inch pans which have been greased and lined with waxed paper.

6Bake in 350° oven for 25 to 30 minutes.

7Cool.

8Put layers together with date filling.

9Frost with favorite fudge frosting.
