  • 2/3 c. soft butter
  • 1 1/3 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/2 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 c. ice water

    Cream butter and sugar.

    Add eggs and vanilla.

    Beat until fluffy, about 5 minutes, at high speed.

    Blend in melted chocolate.

    Sift dry ingredients.

    Add alternately with ice water. Beat well after each addition.

    Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes in 2 (9-inch) round pans, greased.
