Ingredients

  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 Tbsp. margarine (1/2 stick)
  • 1 c. walnuts
  • 1/2 c. raisins (optional)
  • 1 c. coconut (optional)

Directions

    Mix sugar, salt and cocoa in large heavy saucepan.

    Add milk and mix well.

    Cook over medium heat until soft ball forms when a little is dropped in cold water.

    You should be able to pick this ball up in your fingers.

    Remove from heat and drop in margarine. Do not stir.

    Cool until you can hold you hand on the bottom of the pan.

    Stir until vanilla and margarine are mixed in and fudge loses its shine.

    It will be very thick.

    Add nuts.

    Mix and pour in buttered pan.

    Cut in squares.

    Let cool and break apart.
