  • 2 sticks butter
  • 4 egg yolks (reserve the whites)
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. bourbon or whiskey
  • 6 c. unbleached flour
  • 1 (8 oz.) jar apricot preserves
  • 1 1/2 c. walnut pieces, ground to a flour-like consistency
  • 1 c. confectioners sugar

Directions

    Place butter, egg yolks, sugar, vanilla, and bourbon in a large mixing bowl along with 4 cups of flour.

    Knead thoroughly, gradually adding flour until the dough is pliable and doesn't stick to your hands.

    You may need to add more than the indicated flour.

    The pastry dough should be similar to pie crust dough. Chill the dough for 1/2 hour.

    Place ground walnuts and confectioners sugar in a bowl and stir together.
