- 1 (4 oz.) pkg. Baker's German's chocolate
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- 1 c. butter or margarine
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 4 egg whites, beaten
Directions

1Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool.

2Set aside.

3Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add yolks, one at

4a time, beating well after each. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Sift flour with soda and salt. Add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until smooth. Fold in beaten egg whites.

5Pour into three 9-inch layer pans.

6Line bottom of pans with wax paper.

7Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.

8Cool and frost tops only.
