  • 1 (4 oz.) pkg. German sweet chocolate
  • 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 5 eggs, separated
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • Coconut-Pecan Frosting (recipe follows)

Directions

    Melt chocolate in boiling water.

    Allow to cool.

    Cream butter and sugar (see Note) until light and fluffy.

    Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each.

    Blend in vanilla and cooled chocolate.
