- 4 oz. Baker's German's brand sweet chocolate
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 c. margarine
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
- 2 1/4 c. plain flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
Directions

1Melt chocolate in boiling water.

2Cool.

3Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.

4Add yolks one at a time, beating well after each.

5Blend in vanilla flavoring and chocolate.

6Sift flour with soda and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until smooth.

7Fold in beaten egg whites.

8Pour into 3 (9-inch) layer pans lined with wax paper. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.

9Cool.
