  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 c. butter, melted
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 oz. melted chocolate (unsweetened) or 1/4 c. cocoa

    Beat all ingredients in a large mixing bowl on low speed for 30 seconds; then beat on high speed for 2 minutes.

    Bake until a wooden pick comes out clean in center in a rectangular pan for 40 to 45 minutes (round pan for 30 to 35 minutes).
