- 1 small head red cabbage
- 2 tart red apples, cored but not peeled
- 2 Tbsp. bacon fat
- salt and ground pepper to taste
- water
- 3 Tbsp. vinegar
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. flour
Directions

1Remove outer leaves, cut cabbage in quarters, core and grate into skillet.

2Slice the apples; add to cabbage.

3Add fat, salt and pepper; bring to a boil with just enough water to cover. Reduce heat to simmer until tender, 20 minutes.

4Drain, reserving the liquid.
