- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg, well blended
- 4 tsp. molasses
- 2 c. regular flour
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. each cinnamon and ginger (ground)
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- granulated sugar
Directions

1Cream shortening with sugar in a large mixing bowl.

2Mix in egg and molasses.

3Sift and measure flour.

4Sift again with the soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt.

5Stir the dry ingredients into the mixture in the bowl.

6Mix well.

7Shape dough into 1-inch balls and roll each one in granulated sugar.

8Place at least 4 inches apart.

9Bake at 375° for about 12 minutes.

10Remove from pan and cool.

11Makes about 4 dozen.
