- 3/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 3 Tbsp. dark molasses
- 2 c. flour
- 2 Tbsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1/4 tsp. cloves
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
- sugar for rolling cookie balls
Directions

1Cream butter and sugar.

2Add egg, molasses, flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt.

3Blend until smooth dough forms, using medium to low speed on mixer.

4Stir in the semi-sweet chocolate pieces; shape into 1-inch balls.

5Dip tops of balls in sugar.

6Place dipped side up on greased cookie sheet.

7Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes, until browned and firm.

8Makes 5 dozen cookies.
