- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. white sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 4 Tbsp. dark molasses
- 2 c. flour
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. salt
Directions

1Cream shortening and sugar, add egg and molasses.

2Sift remaining ingredients into egg mixture.

3Make balls, walnut-size. Dip tops in sugar.

4Place apart on greased cookie sheet.

5Do not press balls down.

6Bake at 350°.

7Cookies will crack open on top. It is well to chill dough for 1 hour.
