Ingredients

  • 4 1/4 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 2/3 c. hot water

Directions

    Sift together the flour, soda, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and salt.

    Set aside.

    Cream the butter and gradually add sugar. Blend in egg.

    Mix well.

    Add the dry ingredients alternately with the molasses and hot water.

    Blend thoroughly after each addition. Chill dough 30 to 60 minutes.

    Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on a lightly greased baking sheet.

    Bake in 350° oven for 9 to 12 minutes.

    Cool 1 minute and remove from sheet.

    Frost with buttercream frosting.
