- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 cups shortening
- 1 egg
- 12 ounces molasses
- 1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 6 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons ground ginger
- 3 to 4 teaspoons ground cloves
Directions

1Cream sugar and shortening.

2Add egg and beat.

3Beat in molasses and vinegar.

4Sift together baking soda, salt, ginger, cloves, cinnamon.

5Add to mix and cream.

6Add flour all at once and stir just until flour is blended.

7Refrigerate until ready to use.

8This dough must be used CHILLED.
