- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. light molasses
- 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 3/4 tsp. ground ginger
- 3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. boiling water
Directions

1Grease and lightly flour a 9 x 1 1/2-inch round baking pan. Cream shortening and brown sugar until light.

2Add egg and molasses; beat well.

3Stir together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

4Add to creamed mixture alternately with the 1/2 cup boiling water, beating after each addition.

5Pour into pan.

6Bake in 350° oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
