- 1/2 c. butter
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 1/2 c. flour, sifted
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. molasses
- 1 c. hot water
Directions

1Cream the butter and sugar; add the beaten egg.

2Measure and sift the dry ingredients.

3Mix molasses with hot water.

4Add dry ingredients alternately with liquid a little at a time.

5Beat after each addition.

6Bake in a 350° oven in a greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan for 45 minutes.

7Serve warm with whipped cream.
