- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 egg
- 1 c. molasses
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. hot water
Directions

1Cream the sugar and butter. Add egg and stir well. Add molasses, stirring until well mixed.

2Sift together flour, soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt. Beat until smooth.

3The batter is soft but makes a fine cake.

4Bake in shallow

5greased pan. Bake for 35 minutes in a 325° to 350° oven.
