- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. each: soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves and ginger
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. water
- 1 c. molasses
Directions

1Sift flour once; measure.

2Add baking powder, soda, salt and spices.

3Cream shortening; add sugar gradually.

4Cream well.

5Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.

6Combine water and molasses.

7Add dry mixture to creamed mixture alternately with liquid mixture until smooth after each addition.

8Bake in a greased pan, 10 x 10 x 2-inch, in a 350° oven for 45 minutes.
