- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. light molasses
- 1 1/2 c. sifted enriched flour
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 c. boiling water
Directions

1Stir the shortening to soften.

2Gradually add sugar, creaming until light and fluffy.

3Add egg and molasses; beat thoroughly. Sift together the dry ingredients; add to molasses mixture alternately with boiling water, beating after each addition until smooth.

4Bake in greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan in moderate oven, 350°, for about 45 minutes.

5Serve warm.

6Cut in squares and top with whipped cream.
