- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 3/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Beat shortening and sugar until creamy; add egg and molasses and beat well.

2Mix dry ingredients and add to molasses mixture alternately with boiling water.

3Beat after each addition.

4Pour into greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan and bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.

5Serve warm.
