  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Directions

    Beat shortening and sugar until creamy; add egg and molasses and beat well.

    Mix dry ingredients and add to molasses mixture alternately with boiling water.

    Beat after each addition.

    Pour into greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan and bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.
