  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. light molasses
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. boiling water

    Cream the shortening and sugar.

    Add egg and molasses; beat thoroughly.

    Sift the dry ingredients; add to cream mixture, alternating with water and beating after each addition.

    Bake in greased and floured 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan for 35 to 40 minutes at 350°.
