- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons ginger
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup (optional) chopped nuts
Directions

4Sift dry ingredients and add to wet mixture, alternately with water, until just combined.
