- 4 2/3 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. ground cloves
- 1 c. white vegetable shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 c. molasses
- whipped cream or topping
- 2 c. water
Directions

1Mix flour, leavenings, salt and spices in large bowl.

2Cream shortening and sugar until light.

3Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.

4Mix molasses and 2 cups water.

5Add alternately with dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, beating until smooth. Pour into 2 greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pans.

6Bake in preheated 350° oven, about 35 minutes.

7Serve hot with whipped cream.
