  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. melted shortening
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. brown sugar

    Sift flour, spices and soda together. Stir brown sugar into melted shortening. Beat well. Add dry ingredients and hot water alternately in small amounts. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes. Makes one 10 x 10-inch cake.
