- 2 1/4 c. all purpose flour
- 1 c. brown sugar, packed
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/4 c. granulated sugar
Directions

1Mix about half of the flour, all of the brown sugar, shortening, molasses, egg, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and cloves.

2Beat with an electric mixer on medium to high speed until combined.

3Beat or stir in remaining flour.

4Shape dough into 1 inch balls.

5Roll balls in the granulated sugar to coat.

6Place balls two inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.

7Bake at 375 degrees for about 8 - 10 minutes or until edges are set and tops are cracked.

8Makes about 48 cookies.
