- 1 c. white sugar
- 3/4 c. shortening or butter
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
- 2 c. flour
Directions

1Mix sugar, butter and egg together.

2Add molasses and spices. Blend in flour gradually.

3Chill dough in refrigerator for 1 hour for easier handling.

4Shape into 1-inch balls.

5Roll into sugar and place 2 inches apart.

6Bake at 375° for 8 minutes.

7Don't overbake.
