- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. dark molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- granulated sugar
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
Directions

1In large bowl, cream together shortening, 1 cup sugar.

2Add molasses and egg; beat well.

3Sift together flour, soda, spices and salt.

4Add to first mixture. Mix well.

5Cover and chill.

6Form into 1 inch balls.

7Roll each in sugar.

8Place on ungreased cookie sheets, about 2 inches apart.

9Bake at 375° about 8 minutes.

10Let stand 1 minute.

11Remove to wire rack and cool.

12Makes about 4 dozen.
