Ingredients

  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 20 whole cloves
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 23 cup slivered almonds
  • 14 cup sugar
  • 12 gallon red wine
  • 750 ml port wine
  • 1 cup light rum
  • 1 cup aquavit
  • orange slice, for garnish

    In a small saucepan, combine cinnamon sticks, cloves, and water.

    Cover.

    Bring to a boil.

    Reduce heat.

    Simmer about 30 minutes.

    Strain.

    Discard spices.

    In a 4-quart pan, combine spiced water with remaining ingredients, except orange slices.

    Heat over medium-low heat.

    Serve in a punch bowl or from copper stock pot.
