  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. wheat bran (unprocessed or toasted)
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. golden raisins
  • 1/4 c. margarine, chilled
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. milk

    In a large bowl, thoroughly combine flour, bran, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in margarine with pastry blender until mixture is size of coarse bread crumbs. Stir in raisins. Thoroughly blend 1/2 cup milk with egg.

    Gradually add to flour mixture, stirring just until moistened. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead 10 to 12 times.

    Pat into a circle 1/2-inch thick.

    Cut into 8 wedges.

    Arrange on cookie sheet. Combine milk with brown sugar and brush on surface of scones. Shape into cone shape. Bake at 350° approximately 10 to 12 minutes.
