- 1/4 c. butter
- 2 c. milk
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. fennel seed
- 1 tsp. anise seed
- 1 tsp. crushed cardamon (optional)
- 3 Tbsp. corn syrup
- 1 c. rye flour
- 4 c. white flour
Directions

1Melt butter.

2Add milk and heat to lukewarm (105° and 115°). Place yeast in a bowl.

3Add milk mixture and stir until yeast is dissolved.

4Add salt, anise, fennel, cardamon (if used), syrup and rye flour.

5Mix.

6Add about 3/4 of all-purpose flour.

7Knead until dough is soft.

8Cover and let rise in warm place for 45 minutes. On lightly floured surface, knead dough until smooth and satin, adding flour as needed.

9Roll out to long roll and cut into 12 even pieces.

10Form pieces into oblong rolls.

11Place on lightly greased baking sheet.

12Let rise about 35 minutes.

13Bake at 450° for 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown.
