Ingredients

  • 3 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1 c. margarine or butter, softened
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 2/3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 c. Hershey's cocoa
  • 3 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/3 c. sour cream
  • 1 1/3 c. boiling water

    In mixing bowl, cream brown sugar and shortening.

    Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

    Beat on high speed until light and fluffy.

    Blend in vanilla.

    Combine dry ingredients (flour, soda, cocoa and salt); add alternately with sour cream to creamed mixture.

    Mix on low speed until just combined.

    Stir in boiling water until blended.

    Pour into 3 greased and floured 9-inch pans.

    Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until done.
