  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 c. Steens syrup
  • 1 c. coffee, brewed
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 4 c. flour

Directions

    Sift dry ingredients together; set aside.

    In mixing bowl add hot coffee to butter, sugar and syrup, then add dry ingredients and mix only until mixture is turned well.

    Bake in well-greased and heated cast-iron skillets (two 8-inch) at 325° about 25 minutes or until bread springs back to touch.

    Turn immediately to cake plate and butter bottom layer and add top layer.
