- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 onions
- 1 (14 1/2 ounce) can tomatoes
- okra, chopped (optional)
- 8 cups water
- garlic powder
- salt
- pepper
- red peppers or hot sauce
- shrimp (any three) or smoked sausage (any three) or crabmeat (any three) or chicken (any three) or ham (any three)
- Old Bay Seasoning
- file powder
- rice
Directions

1Put 2 tbs of oil and 2 tbs of flour and mix them on medium heat; set them aside when they are caramel brown.

2Chop 2 onions.

3Cook onions and okra if desired in 2 tbs oil.

4Add tomatoes.

5Add 8 cups water.

6Add dash of garlic powder, salt, red pepper and or hot sauce.

7Add meat.

8Add oil and flour mixture.

9Simmer for 30 minutes.

10Make rice.

11Add Bay seasoning and file.

12Put rice in bowl, put some gumbo in it and stir.
