Ingredients
- 6 slices bacon
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 pound beef shank
- 3/4 pound ham, cubed
- 6 cups water (or more)
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 16- ounce cans white northern beans
- 3 cups cubed potatoes
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 pound polish sausage, cooked
Directions

1Fry bacon, crumble and set aside.

2Add onion to 2 tablespoons of the bacon drippings and cook until tender.

3Add beef shank, ham, water and salt.

4Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours.

5Remove meat from shank and dice.

6Skim fat from soup.
-
7Add beans, potatoes and garlic and simmer 30- minutes covered.

8Add cut sausage, bacon and simmer 15 minutes. Serves 10-12.
