Ingredients

  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • cans of vegetables or 1 bag frozen vegetables (use whichever vegetables you like: tomatoes, corn, green beans, lima beans, green peas, potatoes and carrots)
  • 1 (46 oz.) can tomato juice
  • 1 large onion
  • 1/2 head shredded cabbage (optional)
  • 1 c. cooked black-eyed peas (optional, a good way to use leftovers)
  • salt, pepper and spices to your taste

Directions

    In at least a 5-quart pot, brown hamburger in a small amount of water.

    I separate the hamburger by stirring it with a fork as it browns.

    Add tomato juice, vegetables, etc. and seasonings. Simmer for at least an hour to blend the flavors and spices.
