Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 2 medium carrots, sliced
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
- 1/3 c. pearl barley
- 1/4 c. catsup
- 1 Tbsp. instant bouillon granules
- 2 tsp. seasoned salt
- 1 tsp. dried basil, crushed or sweet basil
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 small head cabbage, chopped
Directions

1In a large saucepan cook ground meat until browned.

2Drain off fat.

3Stir in remaining ingredients (except cabbage) and 5 cups water.

4Bring to boiling.

5Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 hour.

6Season to taste with salt and pepper.

7Remove bay leaf.

8Add chopped cabbage and simmer another 1/2 hour.

9Add more water if needed.

10Serves 6.
