Hamburger Stew

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. hamburger meat, browned and drained of fat
  • 2 medium onions, sliced up and down or chopped very coarsely
  • 1 (15 oz.) can red kidney beans (including broth)
  • 1 or 2 green or red peppers, chopped
  • 1 (15 oz.) can whole tomatoes (including juice)
  • 1 small handful rice
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • water (enough to cover)

Directions

    Combine all ingredients.

    Bring to boil and reduce heat slightly.

    Continue cooking about 1/2 hour.

    Add liquid to keep from sticking if necessary.

    It should be slightly soupy but more like stew.

    Serve with crackers or bread and a relish tray of pickles, carrot sticks, etc.
