Ingredients

  • 4 c. self-rising flour (White Lily)
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk

Directions

    Mix first five ingredients. Work in shortening until mealy. Mix together yeast and warm water.

    Dissolve well and add to 1 1/2 cups buttermilk.

    Add to flour mixture.

    Mix well, then knead lightly.

    Refrigerate overnight.

    Roll out about 1/2 inch thick, butter and overlap dough; cut into your favorite size and bake at 450° for 8 to 12 minutes.
